Spring 2017 is just around the corner and here I am still blogging about last years finds... I'd better get cracking before this years spring cleaning happens! This last township area was rather small so there are only a few finds that came out of it, but I'll also add in some more stuff from the end of 2017 to fill it up a bit :)
We'll start with this cute little fish tank set up. My husband is a bit of a fish and aquarium expert, so he checked it out and everything was good and working :)
I thought this little vintage stool was just adorable
This box of Christmas lights
All bulbs inside were intact
They all worked and are now along the roof edge of my porch :)
A big heap of boys clothes and shoes getting ready for a wash
These 2 beautiful vintage christening gowns. No rips or stains on either of them.
This tiny old cross stitch man. The material he was stitched on was a bit stained from age, so I got it out of the frame, soaked it in some Oxyclean, and it turned out perfect.
I sold the following 2 vintage type writers to a collector, they were both in beautiful condition.
This frame is huge, but since my van wasn't that full, I threw it in. With a nice coat of white paint it would make a great prop for a photographer :)
This macrame decoration is kind of hideous, but I grabbed it anyways. I donated it and it went pretty quickly at the second hand store so I guess someone loved it :)
This working Transformers Bumblebee blaster gun made a kid really happy.
A stand for guitars that collapses and folds up for easy storage
A cool vintage coat rack
And that was all for that area... so in order to catch up a bit, here are more finds from the end of the year.
A vintage Vita Mix blender. I looked this thing up online and apparently these were/are the kings of blenders and sell for a pretty penny. I plugged it in to test it, and holy cow, is it was powerful!
Another great old farm window
Some brand new camping/canoeing accessories. The thing on the left is a strap that attaches to your wrist and then to an oar so you don't accidentally lose it. and the thing in the package is a waterproof bag.
I stopped for this chair in the middle of busy traffic because I liked the funky mid-century look of it. Turns out it's an Adrian Pearsall lounge chair. Unfortunately, someone painted the teak base of it white, but you can see the beautiful wood through some paint chips. I'm still not sure if I'm going to tackle removing the paint or selling it as it is for someone else to do.
This rug was at a move out pile, as you can see there is nothing wrong with it (ignore the mess, we were renovating that room at the time).
A cool vintage puzzle map of Canada.
A juicer that I gave to my sister in law
This fantastic old clock made of a piece of leather. The hands were broken and all floppy, but I found out online how to fix it and now it works great :)
A box chock full of Lego. Soup can for scale :)
This metal wall decoration still in the box
I found this huge 42.5" w x 31" h framed print sitting by the garbage cans. I thought it was cute and I called it "The Ooga Booga Boys". Since I am a mom of 3 boys, I thought it would be perfect for our renovated family room, and I hung it right on the wall over the couch.
This little rocking horse has buttons in it's ears that when you press them, they make clop-clop and horse noises.
A Dyson Ball vacuum cleaner that just needed a good cleaning as it was losing it's suction.
A complete tank set up and accessories for a turtle
A vintage Plasson chair
And this old religious wall hanging. I'm not sure what this type of object is called, but I am assuming it was once in a church. If anyone can give me some info about it, I'd love to hear it :)
This is how it looked when I got it home, all dusty and grungy
and once it was cleaned up and hung on my wall
Inside are some accessories. I'm not sure what some of them are, I know what the cross is obviously, and I assume the bottle had holy water in it. What was the plate used for? There are the initials JHS engraved on the plate as well. What do they mean?
6 prints of what look to be abandoned buildings
A cool looking old trunk
A pair of baby books that look like they are still brand new. I don't think these were ever read. Perhaps they weren't religious and received them as a gift.
Some battery powered lamps
Yup, they work!
A bean bag game
And yet another box of Lego.
A nice wooden shoe rack
A large standing candleabra
A cool vintage decanter set
Poor Dracula got trashed, so he ended up on my porch for Halloween
An Elvis cassette collection
A cute snowman bowl still in the box
At one pile I stopped at, I found this. I had no idea what it was at the time, but it was all carefully wrapped up with it's hardware, so I took a chance and brought it home.
Without any instructions, it was like putting together a puzzle where you didn't know what the picture was, but after about an hour and a half, I finally ended up with this...a 5 foot tall doll house.
Meow
Not just for dolls apparently! LOL
A cute princess dress up costume
An industrial looking desk set
A pair of beautiful mid century Krug chairs
They both had London Life inventory tags underneath them, so I guess they were once in their offices.
Yes, even more Lego.
2 vintage prints of New Orleans. I gave these to my sister in law as she visits there often because that's where her daughter lives.
Another cool looking mid century chair
Car ramps
Patio chairs. I sat in these all day when I had my garage sale and they were very comfy :)
Some art
A cool wheeled trunk/suitcase
A large dog crate
A cute little retro side table
2 Santas ready to hold your wine
More like new books (and a photo frame)
and seriously? Another potato bin!
There we go, I think that should be enough for this entry. I think I'll only have one or 2 more posts before I'll finally be all caught up again.
Spring is just around the corner and people are getting ready to do clean ups, so keep looking out for treasures, and happy picking!
Hi! I always enjoy your posts. Amazing what you find! I would definitely look into that religious wall hanging. I don't know anything about it. My best guess would be possibly some kind of communion type thing??! I do know from my own past research that vintage/antique church things can sell for some really good money. I once sold one of those little bottles that still had the original blessed oil in it for about $50. Maybe try looking up vintage crucifix box communion ? Good luck with your research. It looks like a great find!

I just did a quick check...Look up vintage antique last rights box. Looks like it could be something along those lines.
ReplyDeleteThanks! I looked that up and found one that looks almost exactly like it. Apparently it is called a Viaticum: http://mavcor.yale.edu/conversations/constellations/viaticum-last-rites-cabinet-sick-call-set
DeleteThe abbreviation in the religious item you found is IHS. Although it could be spelled JHS, in this case it is an I. See this for an explanation of what those initials mean: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Christogram The small plate is probably for communion, and the bottle is probably for holy water. I would assume that the whole thing is for someone who couldn't get to the priest, so the priest would come to them. Also, for last rites as someone said above.
ReplyDeleteYes, I do see it as an "I" now. Thank you for the link and info :)
ReplyDeleteI am having palpitations over some of these finds The chairs, wow. I would definitely tackle refinishing a Pearsall chair!
ReplyDeleteJust FYI, I think that shoe rack is actually a toy bin storage rack without the bins. Like this one: https://www.amazon.com/Tot-Tutors-Storage-Organizer-Collection/dp/B000067PTO
ReplyDeleteI thought that too because we actually have one of those storage bin things, but the bars for those are even, and the ones for this one is slanted with 2 bars at the back. I think you hook the heels of the shoe in between those 2 back bars, and let the front of the shoe rest on the front bar.Like this:

Those macrame wall hangings are becoming popular again although I really don't like them (and I love most things vintage). If you find another, you should sell it.
