Plates

I've been a little behind on my posts as we have been doing some renovations in the house. Right now my dining room is in my kitchen and my living room is in my dining room. There are boxes everywhere, and sawdust and gyprock dust is getting on everything. It's such a huge mess! I barely have any time or room to sort my garbage or take any pictures. And yet, I still brought all this home...

Ya...that's a grandfather clock in there...

Unfortunately, the weights for the chains are missing and the case needs some re-painting as the old stain is all flaking off, but the rest of it is in great condition. I'm going to see if any local clock makers or repairmen want to buy it for parts, and if not I'll probably list it extremely cheap or even for free on Kijiji. I don't have the time or knowledge to fix it, but I couldn't just let it be trashed.

As for the rest of it, I came across one pile at the side of the road that was strewn everywhere. Unfortunately, it was also raining so most of it got wet and ruined. I did manage to save a bag full of clothing, and not pictured, a candle holder, purse, and a curling iron still in the plastic box. Here are all the clothes washed and bagged, ready to go to the second hand store...

These 2 pieces caught my eye as they are very old and vintage. Probably from around the late 50's, early 60's. The suit had little leather nose and ears details on the feet, and the shorts of the summer outfit button onto the shirt..

This cell phone was also in the bag. Unfortunately, there was no charger cord, so I don't know if it even works. As always, if I can't sell it, it shall be donated :)

The next stop had me take a look because of the broken up pink rubbermaid bin you see in the picture of the back of my car above. I could see clothing strewn in it, so I peeked in the bags that were next to it, saw more clothing and shoes, grabbed it all and threw it into my car. :)

In all there was: 4 hoodies, a pair of Barbie pajamas, 2 PJ pants, 2 regular pants, 2 bikinis, a bra, 9 shirts, 4 dresses, a baby sweater, a pair of shorts, and a leather belt.

There were also 16 pairs of shoes...

A few jackets (The pink one is in need of a wash, but otherwise fine)...

And this motor bike helmet...

I then ended up at a spot that has been producing for me every week for the last month. Hopefully that trend will continue, because they throw out some great stuff!

This week the threw out an awesome retro 50's/60's headboard that I squirrelled away into my barn for a future project, and these beautiful stairway banisters made out of antique plow handles...

Bag number 1...

Inside were CDs galore,  2 winter hats, a pair of mitts, 5 sweaters, 2 pairs of jeans and a t-shirt.

Bag number 2 was a bit more fun...

There were a bunch of movie posters from the early 90's but they were pretty crushed up. There was also a vintage child's umbrella,  a bunch more CDs, a marionette, a vintage leather purse, a day glow orange safety vest, another t-shirt, a book, plug in mini speakers, and a collection of old license plates, which I just happen to collect :)

This is my wall of plates on the outside of my house. It started when I dug a bunch of them out of an old junk pile I found while walking in the woods. The oldest one is from 1941, but it is also in the worst shape :P I don't buy any of them. I only collect or take them if they are found or given to me. :)

Last but not least, I picked up a nice bamboo roller blind. I don't know why it was thrown out as it's in perfect shape, but it did have a horribly knotted pull cord. perhaps nobody wanted to deal with that anymore and simply chucked it, or it no longer fit their decor. I already had a similar blind up in my kitchen, but my husband and I re-did it about 2 years ago. This blind actually fits our new decor better, so it was an easy switch. I'll probably move our old one into our livingroom.

It also hides all the crap in my bay window nicely :)

While I had my sewing machine out last week working on Halloween costumes, I also managed to convert one of my garbage treasures. Earlier this summer I had found a really nice basmati rice bag. I knew I wanted to do something with it, but I wasn't sure what exactly. While moving stuff for the renos we were doing, I tossed aside an old throw pillow I wasn't too fond of, and then I knew exactly what I was going to do.

So, here is my "new" basmati rice bag throw pillow on my awesome comfy chair that I brought home a few weeks ago. It's now one of my favourite things in the room :)

I can't wait to get the rest of the room done, I have a lot more garbage treasures I managed to use around the room. I'll be posting pics when it's all finally done!
